Mission and objectives
The mandate of the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) was established by the Security Council in its resolution 1244 (1999). The primary and overarching objectives of UNMIK are to ensure conditions for a peaceful and normal life for all inhabitants of Kosovo, strengthen and consolidate peace, security, and stability, and promote and protect human rights for all people.

Task description
Task description within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Chief Medical Officer or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Medical doctor will undertake the following roles and responsibilities: Clinical Duties: Provide primary health care services to UN staff and their eligible dependents including cases under observation in Mitrovica dispensary; Provide emergency medical services including prehospital and advanced cardiac life support in response to accidents or lifethreatening medical conditions prior evacuation to the next level of medical care, Be on stand-by for emergencies when and as required; Referral and follow up of patients in outside medical facilities. Facilitate access to specialists and necessary investigations in receiving medical facilities to ensure proper care of the staff and dependents. Escort patients in medical evacuations as and when required. This includes in-trip medical care; Coordinate with Pristina clinic for awareness and health prevention campaigns. Covid19 cases management. Medico Administrative duties: Undergo the necessary trainings organized or recommended by UNMIK Medical Unit; Follow up on medical reports and other documentations for patients under care in contracted facilities; · Perform medico-administrative tasks like data entry in EarthMed, advising staff on medical rules and regulations, sick leave, travel clearance, medical statistics, Accompanying the chief medical officer in assessment visits of medical facilities; Ensure the readiness of UNMIK medical facility in Mitrovica. This includes working with the nurse to keep an updated stock of medications and disposables, regular check of the equipment and ambulance serviceability; Under the supervision and instruction of the Chief Medical Officer, the UNV Medical Doctor may liaise with designated Medevac /referral hospitals, KFOR hospitals etc.

Required experience
5 years of experience in general human medicine (with clinical experience); 3 to 5 years of clinical experience. Valid provider certificate for ALS desirable, valid PHTLS provider certificate desirable. If expired, it is possible to renew it by training;

Required education level
Bachelor degree or equivalent in medicine (MBBS, MB Ch. B, M.D.) or equivalent. Specialization in the field of general medicine or family medicine is desired.

Living conditions and remarks
Kosovo is located in the Balkans mountain range of south-eastern Europe. The climate is continental, with warm summers and cold, snowy winters. Houses/Apartments are easily available and generally have electricity and running water. Costs are reasonable but vary according to location - i.e. city centre vs. outlying villages. Upon arrival, you will reside in a hotel until you get permanent housing. The UNV Field Unit can assist in identify suitable housing. There are no specific health problems associated with Kosovo, and no vaccines are required prior to arrival. Air pollution indexes are high during the winter period and may pose a threat to particularly sensitive groups. UNMIK offices are equipped with air filters. UNMIK provides contracted medical service to its staff should anyone fall ill. Foods and dietary needs of all kinds are available in the many supermarkets. There are market places that cater fruits and vegetables, and bakeries offer some exquisite pastries and breads. Fresh fish and meat are also available. Several English-speaking schools are available in Kosovo.
