Programme Assistant to Civil Rights Defenders in Pristina

About the role

As Programme Assistant you are responsible for assisting the local Programme Officer in monitoring, evaluating and reporting of activities, monitoring and analysing the human rights situation in Europe in general and in conducting human rights activities according to plan. You will also support the local Programme Officer in lobbying and advocacy actions and in preparation and implementation of all planned capacity building activities.

As Programme Assistant you will report to the Head of Partner Support Unit, Europe & MENA.

The role offers great variety, including work tasks such as:

  • Assist the local Programme Officer (PO) in monitoring and analyzing the human rights situation in Europe;
  • Assist the local PO in conducting human rights activities with partners;
  • Support the local PO in lobbying and advocacy actions;
  • Assist the local PO in monitoring, evaluating and reporting on partnerships and activities;
  • Assist the local PO in drafting internal and external communication materials;
  • Assist in organizing events;
  • Assist the local PO in fundraising activities;
  • Maintains project financial records in accordance with Civil Rights Defenders policies and prepares financial reports as required;
  • Works with the local PO to see that the project resources are used correctly and efficiently;
  • Handles petty cash;
  • Oversees the following office facilities: equipment, inventory, purchases and office cleanliness.
  • Is responsible for the procurements of equipment and services;
  • Handles all logistics for short-term international consultants under contract under the supervision of the local PO;
  • Manages logistics for seminars, workshops and project-organized public events including printing, facilities, trainee logistics, banners, signage etc.;
  • Liaises with government agencies on customs, visa and other issues;
  • Such other duties as may be assigned from time to time and that are consistent with the duties of a project administrator.

About you

As a person you have a great ability to analyse numerical data and other sources of information to break them down into components, patterns, and relationships. You like to plan, organise, and prioritize your work in an efficient way to keep time frames and deliver results according to organisational goals and quality standards.

Furthermore, you have the interest, willingness and ability to help others and strives to deliver solutions.

To be suitable for this position you have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, Law, Political Science, International Relations or similar, including education on international human rights mechanisms
  • Documented experience of work in the civil society, and/or advocacy work;
  • Experience in working on administration and documentation;
  • Excellent computer skills, proficient in Microsoft 365 (Teams, Outlook, Excel, PPT, Word), and the ability to learn new systems;
  • Fluency (C1) in Albanian and English are a must (spoken and written);
  • Ability to plan independent and collaborative work and to deliver outputs on time;
  • Flexibility and willingness to work simultaneously on a wide range of tasks and projects independently, as well as the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a small team.
  • It is a merit if you have previous experience in implementation and financial reporting of projects funded by international donors (Sida, EU, USAID etc.).

About the employment

This is a full-time permanent employment with 6 months probationary employment, starting in January 2024 or according to agreement. As an organisation, we strive for diversity and we see your background, experience, and personality as a contribution to the organisation.
